In 2020, all of us were thrown into a state of sudden "remoteness". Companies that had always worked in an in-office setup had to learn to build & manage a team remotely.

For 2 years, we saw companies adjusting to this new normal and learning ways to make "remote work" work. Gradually many started getting good at remote work, heck even enjoying it.

Then, everything started opening up in the post-COVID world.

Most remote work teams transitioned into hybrid setups. And, slowly but surely all the best practices of working remotely have been forgotten.

So, now is a good time to remind each other the things that we learnt painfully. The practices that helped us survive & thrive in the forced remote world of COVID.

Most respondents prefer a hybrid model, combining remote work flexibility with occasional in-office interaction. As we move forward, organizations that embrace this new normal will be best positioned to attract and retain top talent in a competitive market.

27% of firms utilize time-tracking tools for remote staff.

The time-tracking practices undermine the trust essential for successful remote teams. It also perpetuates the misconception that remote work is a privilege, not a viable and effective work style. Companies must recognize that trust, not tracking, is the foundation of productive and engaged remote teams.

98% prefer some form of remote work BUT they don’t fully endorse it.

This reluctance to universally endorse remote work suggests that organizations must approach remote work policies with nuance, recognizing the unique challenges and potential drawbacks that come with this arrangement.

47% want home-office stipends, yet only 33% of firms provide them.

For employees to thrive, not just survive, in remote work environments, companies must prioritize understanding and addressing their evolving needs. Gathering and acting on employee feedback should be a top priority, not an afterthought.

75% of remote workers have never claimed tax relief.

There is a glaring gap between the availability of tax benefits for remote workers and their actual utilization. As more countries introduce remote work tax exemptions, promoting awareness and utilization becomes a non-negotiable.

33% reported adverse mental health due to WFH during Covid-19.

Though over 70% reported no increase in daily work hours or average number of meetings, and more than 40% are taking multiple scheduled breaks daily, companies still have a long way to go in supporting their employees' well-being.
